Professor Stephen James Heinrich Hendricks is a dentistry graduate from the 1st class of UWC 1978. Completed MSc degree in Public Health University London 1984. Awarded a Harvard University / South Africa Fellowship 1990 to graduate MPH degree Harvard School of Public Health. Completed Doctoral/PhD degree 1996 funded by Kellogg Doctoral Fellowship Award jointly at Harvard University School of Public Health and Medical School with Title: The Estimation of the Burden of Mortality in South Africa and its Policy Implications”. Completed MPA degree at Harvard Kennedy School & BTh degree cum laude with TEEC. Completed a 3 year Post-doctoral Fellowship in Public Health Policy at Harvard University 1994. Upon return to SA appointed Director: HRD at NDOH, promoted to Chief Director: HR and LR, serving a Chief Negotiator and was founding member of the PSCBC & PHSDBC. Appointed Professor of Public Health at MEDUNSA 1997, promoted to DDG :District Health Services & HR in KZN DOH 2002, followed appointed as DDG: Business Relations Management at SAMDI 2006. Registered Specialist in Community Dentistry HPCSA 1991. Currently serves as Program Director: Albertina Sisulu Executive Leadership Program in Health (ASELPH) a collaboration between University of Pretoria, University of Fort Hare and Harvard University (USA) in association with National and Provincial Departments of Health & South Africa Partners, funded by USAID, ELMA and Atlantic Philanthropies. Promotor for MPH and PhD graduates at UP. Currently serves Advisory Board of Critical Investigations in Humanitarian Action (CIHA). Loves outdoor & walking the dogs in the park.
