Professor Hanna-Andrea Rother is Head of the Environmental Health Division in the School of Public Health and Family Medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT) Faculty of Health Sciences.
She is an environmental health specialist with over 25 years of research, teaching, engaged scholarship and policy analysis experience. Her focus areas include chemical/pesticide risk management/governance; the impact of climate change on health; developing and evaluating risk communication mechanisms; children’s environmental health; and building a sustainable medical curriculum. Andrea is the convener of UCT’s Postgraduate Diploma in Pesticide Risk Management and the Master of Public Health (MPH) Environmental Health track.
She is a member of the national government’s Multi-stakeholder Committee on Chemicals Management and the SABS Pesticide Technical Committee. Andrea is also a WHO expert adviser and current chair of the FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide Management.
