Short Course on Principles in Monitoring and Evaluation

Monitoring and Evaluation, and sharing of these results have been increasingly emphasised by national and international policy makers and programme managers.
This training course focuses on building the capacity of professionals by providing training in monitoring and evaluation methods, tools and techniques.   Monitoring and Evaluation as a planning tool provides information to assist in reviewing the progress, identify gaps and challenges, setting of priorities and allocation of resources. M&E as a management tool provides the basis to ensure that programme/project objectives are achieved, keeping track, making corrective actions and reporting on performance.

Learning outcomes

 After completing the course participants should be able to:

• understand monitor and evaluate concepts, terminologies, definitions and context;
• understand the different types of monitoring and evaluation methods and approaches;
• develop project objectives, indicators and monitoring and evaluation   tools;
• plan, design and implement a monitoring and evaluation systems;
• facilitate team performance improvements using assessment findings;
• establish performance standards and monitoring systems;
• conduct data analysis and report writing;
• use information for decision making and programme improvement;
• understand result based management;
• use evaluative feedback;
• develop project evaluation proposals; and
• understand the major components of the government wide Monitoring and Evaluation initiatives.

The training covers the fundamental concepts and tools in monitoring and evaluating programs including:

• M & E Frameworks
• Data Systems and Indicators
• Data Analysis
• Evaluation Designs
• Building Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Plans
• Data Collection Methods
• Utilisation and Feedback of M & E Results and Communicating of M & E results to policymakers
