The Wits School of Public Health (WSPH) is one of the largest schools of public health in South Africa with an international reputation for its teaching programmes, conducting high quality and relevant research, community outreach, and policy engagement activities.
The WSPH has been awarded a Chair in Occupational Hygiene as part of a public-private partnership initiative. The chair is funded by Anglo American to enhance research and teaching capacity, increase the number of skilled occupational hygienists, and improve the discipline of occupational hygiene in South Africa.
The University seeks to appoint a candidate for this Chair which will be based in the WSPH, University of the Witwatersrand.
The successful incumbent will be expected to lead a research programme in occupational hygiene, provide academic and strategic leadership in occupational hygiene policy and practice, and teach postgraduate students in occupational hygiene and related disciplines (e.g. occupational health, occupational medicine). There will be generous support for the incumbent (e.g. to fund Masters and PhD students, and postdoctoral fellows) in addition to the salary package. Although this is a funded post, the incumbent will be expected to participate in, and initiate other, funding applications during his/her tenure.
The university has an active research and teaching programme in occupational hygiene, occupational health and occupational medicine, which works in close collaboration with researchers in the faculties of Sciences and Health Sciences and the National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH). There will be opportunity to join existing or new collaborations, with access to novel data sets. The university has excellent research in the fields of, medicine, public health and human, mathematics and Statistics & Actuarial Science Statistics
