Senior Research Officer – Paediatrics and Child Health

The Child Nurse Practice Development Initiative is embarking on a multi-centre intervention research programme with nurses to increase active engagement of mothers of sick children. This programme is in its design phase and needs to appoint a research lead for a three year contract post, renewable on grant funding,

This position provides an opportunity to work with a team of nurse educators and practitioners who are working towards achieving the best possible health outcomes for children. The successful candidate will be required to act as the research programme lead in various clinical practice sites working with small groups of participants in practice related research.

A passionate learner and information collector, the candidate will be someone who enjoys achieving excellent outcomes with and through others.   • A PhD or close to completion, with postgraduate clinical implementation research experience
  • Verifiable skills in project management, participative group enrolment, and communication
  • A publication record


  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council
  • Experience in participative research design and implementation
  • Grant writing experience
  • Experience in visual communication design
  • Experience in practice improvement design and measurement
  • Advanced PowerPoint or other graphics programme


  • Lead the emerging improvement research programme
  • Work closely with Initiative lead to determine and action strategic outcomes-driven research
  • Research design and proposal development for submission through Department and Faculty approval processes
  • Mentor  and co-supervise clinical masters research related to this research programme
  • Overall responsibility for research implementation, data gathering, analysis and reporting
  • Lead the practice development team of researchers and interns

The annual remuneration package is between R413 365 – R595 903.
