Skills Trainer and Mentor: Correctional Services Support Department (2 vacancies) – KZN (Durban) and Free State/Northern Cape (Bloemfontein)

The Skills Trainer and Mentor will train and mentor personnel working in correctional services on counselling and psychosocial support for patients with HIV/TB and related diseases/conditions. Travel throughout South Africa may be required.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Training and mentoring comprises 90% of the job
  • Training assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Daily Administration Required
  • Research: Keep abreast with present developments in the field of HIV/AIDS, STI’s, PMTCT, MMC and TB through: ME’S, Ward Rounds, Journals, Conferences/Workshops, On the job training    

Requirements:

  • A degree in Social Work
  • Registration with the SACSSP
  • A valid driver’s license and Own transport
  • Basic HIV/AIDS Course or equivalent
  • Knowledge and training of MMC, MSM, LGBTI, PEP, Peer education.
  • Proficient in English and Local Language
  • Experience in establishing support groups; Trauma Counselling and debriefing: Family, Client and staff
  • Ability to support peer educators, effect behaviour change and address elements of stigmatization
  • Experience in supporting the rape victim through counselling and referral where necessary
  • 5 years of social work experience of which 2 years should be in the field of HIV with some training exposure – on the job
  • The following will be an added advantage
    1. Assessor Certificate
    2. Train the Trainer
    3. Education Diploma or equivalent
    4. 1 year training experience
