A statement of concern from health professionals in South Africa: Dr Wouter Basson

On 18th December 2013, the Health Professions Council of South Africa found Dr Wouter Basson guilty of unprofessional conduct for acts committed whilst he was head of the Chemical and Biological Warfare programme of the South African Defence Force under apartheid. Sentencing is due in June.

This is an appeal to members of the health professions in South Africa to sign on to a call on the HPCSA to remove Dr Basson from the medical register in South Africa, as an appropriate sentence for his egregious violations of medical ethics.

For more information or indicate your support by signing up to a statement of concern.

You will need to enter your name, HPCSA registration number and address.

The list of health professionals supporting this position (only your name and registration number) will be supplied to the HPCSA Committee considering Dr Basson's sentence as an indication of our concern about the matter.
