Associate, Tuberculosis

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) works in partnership with country governments, partners, and other major stakeholders to identify the key obstacles to access and scale-up of essential health services and to develop sustainable strategies to overcome them. CHAI’s solution-oriented approach focuses on improving market dynamics for medicines and diagnostics; lowering prices for treatment; accelerating access to life-saving vaccines and technologies; and helping governments build the capacity required for high-quality care and treatment programs.

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is looking for an Associate, TB based in Pretoria to support projects primarily related to TB prevention and control. The expected initial duration of this assignment is six months, with a possibility for extension.

Working closely with international partners, CHAI is launching a new initiative to better understand the burden of TB across the mining industry in Southern Africa – and develop actionable solutions to address the burden. The Associate will be responsible for implementing project activities, such as data collection, cost analysis and materials development. S/he will also work very closely with international partners and relevant Country Team Program Managers, Associates, and stakeholders in CHAI focus countries. This is a challenging but rewarding position which will have direct impact on thousands of people in need of life-saving interventions. It is an opportunity to work closely with in-country teams to identify and develop systems and tools that will increase access to and facilitate better management of resources for TB and other diseases. 

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree from a well-recognized, high-caliber institution in a relevant field. (Candidates without the relevant degree but with extensive relevant experience will also be considered.)
  • Excellent analytical skills and technical proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal, visual and written communication skills
  • Natural ability to build strategic relationships and interact with individuals of different backgrounds
  • Ability to multi-task and to be effective in high-pressure situations, and able to adapt to fast-paced and changing environments, both internally and externally
  • Ability to work independently on complex projects and solve challenging problems with limited structural or operational support
  • English language fluency, both written and verbal

Advantages:

  • Work experience in management consulting, finance and similar private enterprises, or in economics and public sector financing
  • Experience working in developing countries, particularly on TB or TB/HIV coinfection
  • Experience in study design, particularly related to economic or epidemiological analysis
  • Experience working with recipient country governments and international partners in country
