Associate Professor / Professor SHSPH UP

The incumbent will:

  • Undertake teaching, learning and research responsibilities in Epidemiology and Biostatistics;
  • Strengthen the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;
  • Promote and support research including supervising postgraduate students;
  • Provide strategic, academic and operational leadership within the School;
  • Play an active role as academic leader of the specialty/discipline at a national and international level.


  • A MMed/College qualification in a medical discipline, or DrPH/PhD in a relevant field;
  • 10 years’ relevant experience of which five years must have been gained at a senior level;
  • Appropriate academic status in the relevant discipline;
  • Experience in networking and team building;
  • Proven leadership skills;
  • The ability to take the role of the Chairperson in the School of Health Systems and Public Health.
  • Communication and decision making skills;
  • A proven research track record with grants and peer reviewed publications.


  • Formal leadership training;
  • International standing in relevant field;
  • Registration with the HPCSA.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and
