Lecturer / Senior Lecturer Master of Public Health Programme

The Wits School of Public Health (WSPH) is one of the largest Schools of Public Health in South Africa, with an international reputation for its teaching programmes, conducting high quality and relevant research, community outreach and policy engagement activities.

The WSPH wishes to recruit a lecturer or senior lecturer (3 year fixed term contract) with excellent skills and relevant experience in public health, health systems and management or health-related social sciences to teach on and enhance its flagship Master of Public Health (MPH) programme.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A Master’s (lecturer) or PhD (senior lecturer) in public health, health policy and health systems, epidemiology or health-related social sciences
  • Teaching and postgraduate supervision experience
  • Ability to lead a research programme (senior lecturer) and to deliver high-quality research results
  • Publication of articles in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Good writing and conceptual skills

A health professional or health management background and evidence of successful grant-writing will be added advantage. 


  • Teach public health to post-graduate students in the WSPH
  • Coordinate various MPH modules in the WSPH
  • Actively participate in post-graduate students’ research supervision
  • Contribute to and play a leading role in the development and expansion of the WSPH research portfolio and its e-learning activities


The remuneration package offered will depend on qualifications and experience and is subject to the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg regulations.
