The School of Public Health at the University of the Western Cape has an international reputation as a leading research and teaching institution in Public Health. It’s educational and research activities are wide-ranging, with a special focus on health systems research, primary health care, social determinants of health, health promotion, and priority conditions including TB/HIV and chronic disease, and the implementation of district health systems. The School is a WHO Collaborating Centre and houses a prestigious South African Research Chair Initiative (SARCHI) Chair in Health Systems, Complexity and Social Change and the Centre for Research on HIV and AIDS. The School’s distance learning postgraduate programme, offered through a range of learning media, is unique in Southern Africa. It provides health and welfare personnel from developing countries, especially in Africa, with the opportunity to enhance their capacity to analyse, build and strengthen the health sector in their respective countries.
The School is seeking to fill a vacancy of Associate Professor or Professor in a permanent position to commence duties as soon as possible. The successful candidate will join a strong multi-disciplinary team of academics, play a central role in the School’s postgraduate programmes, including Master’s, Doctoral and Postdoctoral supervision, and will be expected to lead and develop existing and new research areas in the School.
A strong profile in research, masters and doctoral level supervision, policy engagement, post graduate course development, fundraising and leading teams will be a great advantage.
