Volunteer, Strategy and Business Development

Founded in 2002, by President William J. Clinton, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health systems around the world and expanding access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other illnesses.   Based on the premise that business oriented strategy can facilitate solutions to global health challenges, CHAI acts as a catalyst to mobilize new resources and optimize the impact of these resources to save lives, via improved organization of commodity markets and more effective local management. By working in association with governments and other NGO partners, CHAI is focused on large scale impact and, to date, CHAI has secured lower pricing agreements for treatment options in more than 70 countries.  In addition, CHAI’s teams are working side-by-side with over 30 governments to tackle many of the largest barriers to effective treatment and care.

The CHAI Rwanda program is currently seeking a highly motivated, flexible individual to provide technical support to the Rwandan Ministry of Health (MoH) in its creation of a business development unit. This unit will focus on developing and implementing recommendations to increase the capacity of MoH in generating internal revenue. Candidates must have excellent analytical skills, and outstanding communications skills and cultural sensitivity, as they will be working closely with MoH partners. They must be able to manage multiple tasks and drive multiple work plans forward. They must exhibit a passion for results and commitment to excellence. Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the business development unit’s strategic vision;
  • Work with the unit leadership to establish and streamline operations;
  • Build the entrepreneurial capacity of RBC staff in the areas of opportunity identification, business modeling, negotiating and structuring partnerships, and optimization of resources and value chains;
  • Perform other work on an as needed based (e.g. assist on proof reading of documents, or assist in writing news articles);
  • Participate in relevant workshops and meetings with stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in business, accounting, finance, or economics;
  • 5 years minimum experience in the field or business development, investment banking, and/or cultivating a startup;
  • Excellent analytical skills, and prior analytical experience;
  • Outstanding diplomatic and interpersonal skills, and excellent ability to build relationships;
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information concisely, and prepare short reports or presentations;
  • Ability to multi-task and deliver on multiple work streams in high-pressure situations with minimal supervision;
  • Masters in Business Education preferred;
  • French and/or Kinyarwanda fluency a plus;
  • Prior experience in East Africa a plus;
  • Expertize on finance a plus;
  • Prior experience in building capacity of government officials a plus.
