Post Doctoral Research Fellow (Port Elizabeth)

The HSRC is eagerly looking to interview suitable post-doctoral candidates to fill the position below on 1 February 2013: Human Sciences Research Council  Post Doctoral Research Fellow  to be based in HSRC, Port Elizabeth (3 year contract)

Key Responsibilities:

In addition to the responsibility to publish journal articles, Post-Doctoral Fellows will contribute to the sustainable growth of the research programme portfolio by:

  • Assisting with proposals and grant applications to undertake funded research;
  • Assisting in delivering research within specified budgets and to deadline;
  • Assisting in mentoring interns and research assistants;
  • Supporting the development of contacts and relationships with colleagues in academic institutions, government organizations and the wider research community;
  • Supporting effective participation in multidisciplinary research teams and partnerships;
  • Supporting initiatives to promote the strategic objectives of the HSRC;
  • Participate and contribute to discussion in HSRC-wide activities.

Key requirements:

  • A recent PhD or equivalent qualification (obtained not more than 5 years ago);
  • A sound grounding in research methods will be a strong recommendation;
  • Requisite computer skills;
  • Willingness and ability to work in teams and independently;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, administrative and problem solving skills;
  • Willingness to work after hours and over weekends and in rural communities.
