Occupational Health: Lecturer / Senior Lecturer

Applications are invited for this post, in a joint capacity between the Wits School of Public Health (WSPH) and the National Institute for Occupational Health (NIOH). The candidate will be actively involved in the training of postgraduate students in occupational health; contribute to under-graduate medical training, and participate in research and occupational health service provision.

Minimum qualifications: Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a medical practitioner, and a post-graduate qualification in occupational health. Research and teaching experience will be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver the various modules of the Diploma in Occupational Health;
  • Participate in the teaching of MMed students, Master of Public Health (occupational hygiene) and under-graduate medical students;
  • Undertake research in the discipline of Occupational Health to increase the body of scientific knowledge, advise industry on risk reduction strategies and to uphold the reputation of the School and the NIOH;
  • Undertake administrative tasks related to the occupational medicine portfolio, including student admission, course marketing, developing and updating brochures, student recruitment, assessing applications, selecting appropriate students and assisting students with registrations;
  • Engage in clinical service delivery at the NIOH with respect to the evaluation of patients with suspect occupational disease in accordance with the principles of good clinical practice.

Salary: Within university salary scales and commensurate with skills and experience.
