Research shows that alcohol marketing and advertising contributes to excessive alcohol consumption and promotes its continued use as a social norm. The Phuza Wize campaign, initiated by the Soul City: Institute for Health and Development Communication, primarily focuses on changing the availability and access to alcohol as a way to reduce the high levels of alcohol-related harm in the country.
