The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a collaboration between the University of Washington and the University of California, San Francisco. It is a center in the University of Washington's Department of Global Health and has offices throughout Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. I-TECH's 700 worldwide staff work in partnership with local ministries of health, universities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), medical facilities, and other organizations to support the development of a skilled health work force and well-organized national health delivery systems. I-TECH's activities occur primarily in the technical areas of health system strengthening; health workforce development; operations research and evaluation; and prevention, care, and treatment of infectious diseases.
The Senior Operations Specialist (SOS) provides oversight, training, hands-on support and technical assistance to I-TECH country offices on all aspects of operations with the exception of financial management and polices. As an extension of the UW headquarters based in Seattle, the I-TECH country offices are required to be in compliance with UW and funding agency requirements as well as meeting local laws and regulations. The SOS plays a pivotal role in assuring I-TECH’s international activities are in compliance with this complex array of policies and regulations. They have overall responsibility for development of policies and procedures for country offices in the areas of human resources, contractual agreements and all other areas of operations. The SOS will provide technical assistance and at times perform start-up activities for new country offices, and ongoing assessments of operations. The SOS will maintain regular contact with country offices to provide ongoing training and assist with problem-solving. The SOS will be travelling up to 50% time to I-TECH country offices in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.
