Based in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal Province
This position will be responsible for the operational research (OR) and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) component of a long-term HIV and TB incidence reduction project in hyper-epidemic setting. This includes networking with relevant research and operational partners, protocol development and ethics approval, responsibility for study design, implementation, analysis and dissemination of research findings, development of M&E of all operational project components as well as management thereof.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years practical experience in HIV/TB in Southern Africa
- University degree in Health Systems Research, Public Health, Epidemiology or related health research degree
- Initial medical or para-medical degree an added advantage
- Proven work experience in the field of HIV/AIDS, including demonstrated experience in designing and analysing TB/HIV operational research in Southern Africa
- Experience working in public health sector in South Africa an added advantage
- Proficiency in medical statistical techniques (analysis of cohort studies and complex survey data)
- Minimum 5 peer-reviewed publications as first author
- Good knowledge of common office software (Microsoft Office) and statistical software (STATA, SPSS or equivalent)
- Experience in team management
- Experience in working and constructively participating within a multi-disciplinary international team
- Ability to work independently, proactively identifying and addressing issues
- Ability in technical writing (reports or peer-reviewed publications)
- Good diplomacy and communication skills
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Zulu language an added advantage
- Community involvement and personal experience showing a willingness to adhere to the humanitarian principle of Médecins Sans Frontières.
- South African citizen or holder of a valid South African work permit
Responsibilities:
- Development, set-up and co-ordination of the M&E project component
- Support the set-up and management of an M&E system for the activities of the patient and community support component
- Support and strengthening of the existing M&E of the TB and ART programmes
- Support the set-up and management of a database that will serve M&E and OR objectives
- Management, supervision, training and coaching of M&E team Development and implementation of an OR agenda for the project
- Development of study protocols
- Ethical review board application and follow-up process
- Liaison with external partners to implement the HIV incidence surveys
- Development of study protocols. Communication with other components of the programme and relevant partners (academic and implementation)
- Produce regular progress reports on M&E
