Fieldwork Co-ordinator – Burden Of Disease Research Unit, Parow (Western Cape)

The Medical Research Council strives to improve the nation’s health status and quality of life through relevant and excellent health research aimed at promoting equality and development. The Burden of Disease Research Unit focuses on the measurement and analysis of trends in health status and risk factors and is seeking to fill the following position:

Fieldwork Co-ordinator – Burden Of Disease Research Unit, Parow (Western Cape) – 6 month once-off short term contract

We require an organized and resourceful person who can assist our Unit in implementing and co-ordinating data collection activities at selected mortuaries across eight provinces. The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Participate in the piloting of the data collection instruments
  • Liaise with the Cape Town-based project management team, relevant provincial authorities and managers of the selected mortuaries
  • Participate in the recruitment and training of data collectors
  • Manage eight separate data collection teams in each of the provinces
  • Ensure ongoing quality control of collected data

Candidates should meet with the following criteria:

  • A basic three year B-degree in the social sciences or a health- related field (Nursing)
  • Drivers license and willingness to travel within South Africa
  • Strong communication skills and ability to problem-solve / trouble- shoot data collection challenges
  • Computer literacy
  • Practical experience in a health related field would be an advantage, preferably with knowledge of emergency health services, injuries and/or postmortem investigation.

A cost to company remuneration package between R164 616 – R231 326 per annum will be negotiated in accordance with qualifications and experience. Candidates should clearly indicate when they will be available to commence duty.
