Advanced Epidemiology Methods Seminar and Applied Biostats Course

Intro to Applied Biostatistics, organized by SACEMA, is to be run at AIMS, Muizenberg, 11-22 July 2011, and taught mainly by a strong team from SSAS, UKZN. The course is aimed particularly at young postgraduates in the many disciplines that need it. A seminar in Advanced Epidemiology Methods will be taught by Dr. Matthew Fox of the Department of Epidemiology and the Center for Global Health and Development at Boston University, at Stellenbosch University under the auspices of SACEMA, 15-19 August 2011. It will begin with causal models, and go on to develop a deeper understanding of measures of effect, confounding, misclassification and selection bias, as well as concepts of precision and validity – all essential for the deveoping researcher.
